Claire Winteringham
Claire Winteringham studied Textiles at Manchester
Metropolitan University and has been a professional artist - paintings,
illustration and design - since graduating with 1st. Class BA.Hons in
1978.
It was there she learned the fundamental skills of observation, drawing and appreciation of colour. At the end of her studies Claire won a North West Arts Bursary to
help consult at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal Cheshire for one year. She was
also invited to take up various part time posts as a visiting lecturer
at the University of Central England in Birmingham, Manchester Met and
Solihull College of Technology which lasted until 1999.
Her highly individual watercolours - landscape, still life,
flowers - are almost always drawn from life. They typically combine
inspired use of colour with superb drawing ability and embody her
natural sense of design. Individuals and corporations worldwide have
acquired her paintings through exhibitions and private shows in the UK
and abroad. In 2010 and 2011 her paintings were selected by The Royal
Watercolour Society in London at their Bankside Gallery Open Exhibition
and at the Royal Institute of Painters in watercolour at The Mall
Galleries.
Commissions include work for Sir Richard and Lady Branson, Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery and the 3i Business Centre. Other design clients include LSA International, John Lewis Partnership (Waitrose), Marks and Spencer, Worldwide Fund for Nature, Save the Children Fund, Padblocks Ltd, and Dunoon Ceramics.
Claire's Alphabet Poster was commissioned for ReallyGIANTPosters.com and has been applauded by educationalists for its excellent use of colour and design in helping young people learn their ABC!
